Hey friends and family- I haven’t updated you guys in a while! So here’s a quick update of what I’ve experienced in this magical city thus far.

I think this picture can properly sum up how utterly speechless I am to living in this city. I managed to not only attend NYFW but I also met my favorite poet, musician, and love of my life (joking… maybe.).
Within a matter of one month residing in this lovely city I have met with editors, I have met my favorite band, been in a music video, taken backstage to a runway show, and gotten in VIP to an exclusive celebrity hotspot. Is my life a retelling of Sex in the City? Are my best friends and I simply Carrie Bradshaw and her girls? It certainly feels just as exciting and enticing! Regardless of these crazy times, most of my time here has been simply tame.
Let me start this tame tale of mine off with a story of boy meets girl. Superbowl sunday came around and my resident life director coordinated a free shake-shack catered Super Bowl party. OF COURSE I was going to go, free milkshakes all day everyday please! So there I was chatting with my friends of how interesting it was to meet so many foreigners when my now boyfriend of two months came and sat next to me. He introduced himself and told me that he was from Melbourne, Australia and had overheard our foreigner conversation. I absolutely adored hearing about his life (not to mention his accent was glorious) and we continued to spend the rest of the night making new friends and such. I never thought much of it, I wasn’t looking for anything at all truly. About a week before valentines day I received a text invitation to a benefit concert on the 14th where Mac Demarco was to be playing. It was from the Aussie, Dylan. I said yes because MAC DEMARCO, and because it was group invite and not a specified date.
The fourteenth rolled around and I met up with my dorm friends (and Dylan) to head out. The concert was lovely and I had an amazing time. Mac played some classics and then some of his own, wooing the crowd with his 80’s sounding vocals and acoustic guitar. But I kept noticing the slight gestures made by Dylan indicating a little crush. I truly didn’t know how to feel about it. After the night ended as I laid in bed I texted him asking his intentions (being the hard headed blunt person I am), with no response. I figured I was misinterpreting the signs and moved on. Two weeks later I ran into him (obviously with him living one floor below me). We coordinated a little vinyl listening hangout for later that day- one that I would later be majorly surprised about. That evening, we talked music and listened to some favorites- I was expecting nothing of it. But to my surprise that sneaky Australian stole a kiss.
Time passed and I realized- like a tractor trailer hitting your face- that I really liked him. Not to be a mushy gal but I really do like this boy and I hope things continue to grow further with our relationship. He’s amazing and absolutely perfect in my eyes. *Cue the sappy music and awes*.
So after meeting Dylan, my days went from adventures to normal day to day activities. A normal day in the city for me looks like going to class, sitting at coffee shop to finish some homework, then running back home to watch Twin Peaks with Dylan while eating yummy Australian chocolate cookies called timtams. I absolutely love it though. My life makes my heart so happy. It doesn’t need to be this crazy roller coaster, though I do like to make it seem that way. I don’t take for granted the crazy adventures that come my way, but I’d rather be comfy and allow the crazy to come at a moments notice rather than actively seek it. I like to take my day with a blank page, a flexible schedule, and an almond milk cappuccino so that if an opportunity comes along, I can welcome it with open arms.
Not to say that Dylan makes my life tame, but he makes it comfortable, and that is something I would much rather have than not. He makes me happy in my current situation and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. My life is a crazy ride full of experiences- tame and wild alike. Memories are etching themselves into my laughter lines and I am extremely happy to share these smiles with Dylan, my friends, and my family. So this is a little sweet and sappy recap of the everyday that I spend in this awe inspiring city.
Much love my friends,
Alessandra Xx
