(2:40 pm, November 9th 2016).
As I’m walking down the streets of Manhattan contemplating what went wrong with this election, I came across a group of middle schoolers singing spice girls at the top of their lungs. I smiled so hard that I honestly probably looked creepy. The thing is, while most of are wallowing in shame for the US, life still moves on. Happiness and love still exist. Today, though a dark day, has already been a day full of love and support. While outrage is eminent, love and compassion can still triumph. It’s our job as young millennials to continue to spread our message to this nation. We stand for love- for ALL, we stand for equality- for women, for the black community, for immigrants, refugees, Muslims, LGBTQ, and ALL. It is our job as educated youth to turn to each other and embrace one another. We may be divided politically- but we don’t have to be divided in love and acceptance. Happiness is abound in love. And happiness can be found in the smallest of things. Grab yourself a cappuccino, read something, anything that makes you feel happy today. I encourage all of you to reach out and talk to one another during this time and continue spreading the love we have for our friends, family, community, and country.
Better days are coming- just keep fighting.
Xx,
Alessandra
